Jane Bastian was born in 1824 and christened on 17 Aug 1824 at Crowan in Cornwall, England.
She was the daughter of Sampson Bastian senior (1791-1846) and Philippa Holman (1797-1872).
Aged 16 years, she arrived with her parents on board Java from London on 13 Oct 1839.
Aged 23 years, she married Thomas Atkinson on 20 May 1847 in Holy Trinity Church, Adelaide. They had one daughter Ada Jane Ann, who was born in late 1865 and died on 11 March 1866, aged 9 weeks. Thomas and Jane adopted Thomas Arthur Palmer (1869-1885) who died at South Terrace, aged 16 years, on 07 March 1885.
Mrs. Jane Atkinson (neé) Bastian) died on 24 July 1910, aged 86 years and she was buried in St. Stephen’s Anglican cemetery at Willunga.
