Susanna Holman was born in 1826, the fourth daughter of John Holman (1795-1853) and Millicent Hodge (1795-1850). She arrived at Port Adelaide from Liverpool, aged 13 years, with parents and other siblings from Crowan, Cornwall on 7 June 1839 aboard Sir Charles Forbes .
Susanna Holman, aged 17 years, married William Bridgeland Higgins (1819-1893), labourer, at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Adelaide on 4 March 1843. He was able to sign the marriage certificate but she made her mark. Witnesses were John Holman (father or brother?) and Ann Pollard.
They had three children:
John Henry (1845-1914) b. at Port Gawler, m. Sarah Martha Stocker (1839-1927) at Clydesdale, Victoria on 21 March 1868.
Elizabeth (1846-)
William George (1849-1871) died aged 22 years
Susanna Higgins, aged 25 years, died on 23 May 1851 at the Reedy Creek Mine at Tungkillo, South Australia.
