Susanna Holman (nee Atkinson) was born on 17 August 1828 and was baptized at St. Mary and St. Peter’s church in Waddingham, Lincolnshire, England. She was the youngest daughter of Robert Atkinson (1774-1832) and Susanna Fish (1788-1832) of Hayes Farm, Snitterby. She was only 4 when her parents died. Religion – Church of England.

Susanna travelled with her four brothers (William, Robert, Thomas and Joseph) and her sister (Bridget, some with their families, travelled to South Australia on board Singapore from London. They arrived at Holdfast Bay on 12 November 1839, Susanna was then 11 years old and she lived in Willunga during the 1840s.

Susanna Atkinson married James Holman (1827-1903) on 9 Sept 1852 at Willunga. By 1853 James and Susanna Holman had moved to Bald Hills near Yankalilla where they lived for some years (perhaps until after 1883) but by 1887 they had moved to Napperby near Crystal Brook. They had eleven children (five sons and six daughters):

Bridget Catherine (1854-1890) m. Thomas Smith on 3 Jan 1883

Thomas Atkinson (1856-1892) died aged 36 years, unmarried

Susanna Millicent (1858-1890) m. Robert Bain Carmichael on 30 March 1887

James (1859-1860) died as an infant

Mary Louisa (1860-1890) m. Henry Young

Hannah (Annie) (1862-1893) died aged 31 years, unmarried

Ada (1863-1889) died aged 26 years, unmarried

Philippa (1865-1895) died aged 30 years, unmarried

James (1867-1894) died aged 17 years, unmarried

Robert John (1869-1942) m. Eliza Rosanna Hawkins on 4 Jan 1894

Susanna Holman (nee Atkinson) died on 31 May 1894 at Napperby near Crystal Brook in South Australia and she is buried in the Crystal Brook cemetery.
